Math Word Problems Demystified by Allan G. BlumanI started reading and doing exercises in this book for fun. At the beginning, the word problems looked easy, but as I progressed they got a bit complicated and more difficult. Well, for me, this book was a big challenging. Trying to get my mind around math word problems for the first time wasnt easy. Sometimes I had to re-read a problem several times, another time I had to switch-think between English and Dari, my native language, to understand a question. Although some problems were difficult, thinking about them, practicing them and reflecting on them after practicing really helped me build new skills about English in math world and polish my personal analytical and deep thinking skills during my free time.
In a nutshell, this book is a fabulous work. Every chapter begins with a math refresher. The rest of the chapter guides you step by step with lots of exercises. At the end of each chapter there is a separate exercise and a quiz. What I really experienced by reading this book was the power of PRACTICE. The more I practiced different problems in this book, the stronger and more confident I felt about my math skills. So, yeah. Get a copy, and stimulate that hidden math side of your brain. Like the book says, demystify it. Math is not boring nor its difficult. Once we know how it works we will enjoy its fun.
Have fun and enjoy your math time.
