Ten Things I Hate about You by David LevithanBuzzword A Thon
Golden Girls Read A Thon: Read a book that includes female friendships
When I was 13 years old 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite movie. I think I saw it in the theater at least 3x. I loved it! This movie was the first time I ever saw Heath Ledger and it was love at first sight. I was also still nursing my crush on Andrew Keegan(what ever happened to him) and I thought Julia Stiles was the coolest. Im tempted to rewatch the movie but I fear I wont enjoy it as much as an adult.
If Im being honest this book is probably a 2 star read but my nostalgia for the movie caused me to up the rating. 10 Things I Hate About You is a retelling of William Shakespeares The Taming Of The Shrew. Bianca the most popular sophomore at Padua High wants to date but cant until her older sister Kat does and Kat has no interest in dating or parties. So Cameron one of the 2 boys vying for Bianca comes up with a plan to get Kat to go out with school bad boy Patrick.
Despite the condensed and rushed nature of the book it did make me want to watch the movie again. If for no other reason than to see a young Heath Ledger.

10 Things I Hate About You is still the perfect teen movie 20 years on
A modern retelling of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," the movies stars Julia Stiles as Kat Stratford, an antisocial teen intent on avoiding most teens and their drama. Her younger sister Bianca played by Larisa Oleynik wants to date, but isn't allowed to until Kat gets a boyfriend. In honor of the movie's 20th anniversary, here's what the cast of "10 Things I Hate About You" has been up to since Kat's antisocial attitude kept her friend group small and angered her younger sister, Bianca, who wasn't allowed to date until Kat did. Boys were afraid of Kat, which made it difficult for Bianca to find someone to date her sister.
The flick that launched the careers of Heath Ledger and co into the stratosphere was a beacon of brilliance back in when it debuted, with a bunch of sassy characters led by the formidable Kat Stratford played by Julia Stiles. And the movie floats along the same train of thought as suitors try to woo the women. The violence checks out in both the movie and play. That is really where the similarities stop, though. The main difference between the two stories is abundantly the attitudes towards women — the sisters are property to be traded. Cute, huh? Petruchio also feels the denial of food and clothing on Katherine will break her will in the play and make her into a better wife.
About This Item
The film tells the story of sisters Kat Julia Stiles and Bianca Larisa Oleynik , whose strict father will not allow Bianca to date until her older sister does. This is bad news for lovestruck teen Cameron a baby-faced Joseph Gordon-Levitt , who is smitten with Bianca, although she wants a date with senior Joey. In an effort to nab a date, Cameron enlists high school bad boy Patrick Verona Heath Ledger to seduce Kat — but things go wrong as Patrick actually starts to fall for the abrasive feminist. Sure, it sounds like pretty much every other teen movie. But it resulted in is a classic that is still as joyous to watch twenty years on.
In there was an attempt to recapture the rom-com's magic with a short-lived 10 Things I Hate About You TV show, but it lacked the chemistry of the original. At the time, she was reportedly nervous about the role as she was a decade older than her cast mates. After 10 Things she continued in teen movies, starring in Bring It On in The only problem? Her sister has absolutely no interest in dating and is focused on attending Sarah Lawrence College instead. In a twist, Oleynik attended Sarah Lawrence in real life. Apparently Oleynik originally auditioned for both Kat and Bianca, but was more interested in playing the feminist riot girl Kat.
